Curious about trying improv but not sure what to expect in a class? We get it—it can feel intimidating. So let’s pull back the curtain a bit.
At CSz Boise, our classes are welcoming, energetic, and built for you—whether you’re brand new to the stage or looking to sharpen your skills.
Here’s what actually happens in a typical improv class at The Green Room:
🎉 1. We Warm Up—Together
Every class starts with group warm-ups to shake off the day and connect with each other. These aren’t “acting exercises”—they’re playful, pressure-free games designed to get your brain and body in sync.
And here’s a secret: warm-ups are supposed to be a little messy.
They help you get comfortable with failing in front of other people—and then realizing nothing bad happens. You laugh, you try again, and suddenly failure doesn’t feel so scary anymore. That’s the magic of improv.
🎭 2. We Practice Core Skills
We dive into exercises that build the building blocks of improv:
Saying “Yes, And”
Active listening
Being present
Supporting your scene partners
Finding the “who, what, and where” of a scene
These skills go far beyond the stage—they’re useful in relationships, leadership, parenting, and collaboration.
🤪 3. We Play Games & Create in Improv Class
Yes, we play! But the games aren’t just for laughs—they help us explore timing, emotion, characterization, status, and storytelling. And every class includes a chance to try new things out in a safe, supportive environment.
🧠 4. We Reflect and Celebrate
We wrap up by celebrating risks, sharing laughs, and encouraging one another. No one is graded. No one gets cut. Every “mistake” becomes part of the fun.
What people say after their first class:
“I haven’t laughed that much in months.”
“I walked in nervous and left feeling amazing.”
“That was therapy disguised as fun.”
Improv isn’t about being funny—it’s about being real, brave, and connected.
